AI-Built Websites: What You Actually Get
Sixty seconds to a finished website is a real demo and a misleading promise. What AI does well, where it falls down, and how you tell the difference.
Every website tool now has an AI button. Describe your business, wait a minute, and a finished site appears. The demo is real, and it's genuinely impressive! That page really does get generated. It's also the most misleading sixty seconds in the industry.
So it's worth being precise about which parts of building a website AI is really good at. The answer is most of them! Just not the ones that decide whether your site really works.
What AI genuinely does well
Drafting, and it's great at it. A blank page is why most small business sites never launch, and AI removes it completely. Give it your trade, your town and your services. You get usable headings, service descriptions and an about section in seconds. Editing a decent draft is a far smaller job than writing from nothing!
It's also very good at the tedium. Alt text, meta descriptions, turning your list of services into consistent copy, rewriting a paragraph five ways so you can pick your favorite. That part is genuinely great! That's real work, and it used to be billed to you by the hour.
Where it falls down
Facts. A generated site will confidently invent your opening hours and your service area. It'll write a testimonial from a customer who doesn't exist. It'll give you a phone number in the right format that belongs to somebody else. It has no way to know these things, so it produces something plausible instead. Every factual sentence on a generated page has to be checked by a human who knows your business.
Sameness is the other problem, and it's a really common one. Models trained on the same web produce the same layouts and the same phrases. That's why generated sites have a house style you start to recognize. If your competitor down the road used the same tool the same month, you may both be looking at near-identical pages.
And the last mile is where those sixty seconds run out. A generated page isn't a launched website. Somebody still has to deploy it, point your domain at it, get the certificate working and check it on a phone. That's where most AI-built sites quietly stall.
How we use it, and where we stop
Brennan Builds uses AI where it's honest to. We draft your copy from the details you give us at intake, so you're editing sentences instead of staring at a blank field. What we don't do is let a model invent facts about your business. We don't let it generate the design either.
The templates are licensed, professionally designed layouts. They're absolutely not generated per order. Your site is built from the template you chose and deployed for you, with hosting and SSL included. You review your preview and you get a revision round before it's finished!
Three things to check before you trust any AI-built site
Read every factual sentence out loud. Your hours, your service area, your prices, any claim about your experience. Confirm every single one yourself! Anything you can't confirm should be deleted, not softened.
Open it on your own phone, not the desktop preview! Then check it's really reachable. That means a real domain, a working certificate, and a page that loads for somebody who isn't signed in to the builder. Best of all, ask a friend to open it cold and tell you what they see!
