What to Write on Your About Page (When You Hate Writing)
Your about page is the second page most visitors open, and the one everybody puts off. Here is what to put on it when you would rather be working.
The about page is where sites stall. People stare at it for weeks, because writing about yourself is genuinely awful!
It helps a lot to know that your customer isn't reading it for your life story. They're checking whether you're a real person who will do a good job.
Start with what you do and who for
Two sentences! What you do, and who you do it for. That's really it.
We do bathroom fitting for homeowners around Leeds beats anything longer! Somebody should know within seconds whether they're in the right place.
Then how long, and how you got here
Time is the easiest trust you'll ever earn! Twelve years does a very great deal of work in three words.
If you're new, say what you did before instead. Fifteen years on somebody else's crew is experience, and being straight about it reads far better than being vague.
Say the thing that makes you different
Not a slogan! An actual fact somebody could check.
We only take one job a week, so yours gets finished. Or we clean up properly! Specific is believable, and it's really the only kind of claim that helps you.
Put a face on it
One photo of you, or you and the team. Not a stock photo! People really want to see who is turning up.
It doesn't need to be a professional shoot. A decent phone photo in good light is great, and it's much better than nothing.
End by asking for the next step
Somebody who read the whole page is interested. Don't leave them there!
Finish with the call, the form or the number, so the interest goes somewhere.
What to leave out
Skip the mission statement and anything about being passionate. Everybody writes those, so nobody reads them!
Five short honest sections beat a page of polish. If writing it is still the thing stopping you, Brennan Builds builds the site from what you tell us about the business, and full refund if you cancel before we start building.
